Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman has over 25 years of experience in consulting and expert witness investigations.  Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman is a tenured, full professor of coastal science in the Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University.  He is joined by his son, Stephen B. Leatherman, who has a Ph.D. in coastal science and has conducted extensive research on rip currents and their hazards in South Florida. Stephen B. Leatherman’s dissertation involved undertaking the first field measurements of rip currents using GPS drifters, fluorescent tracer dye and drones to better understand these dangerous offshore-flowing currents.  This is one of only three scientific field measurements of rip currents in the United States.
