Leatherman is a tenured, full professor of coastal science in the Department of Earth and Environment at Florida International University. He is joined by his son, Stephen B. Leatherman, who has a Ph.D. in coastal science and has conducted extensive research on rip currents and their hazards in South Florida. Stephen B.
